Peter Petersen Smith, 77, of Van Buren, Ohio, and formerly of Hoytville, died Monday, August 3, 2009 at
1:45 p.m. at Blanchard Valley Hospital.
Mr. Smith was born Aug. 5, 1931 in Jackson Township, Wood County, to Harlan and Grace (Hennings) Smith.
He married Velma (Gooch) on January 17, 1954 in Bloomdale, Ohio.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ellen (Curtis) Hugunin of Eaton, Ohio, and Paula Smith of Oakridge,
Tenn. Two grandchildren survive: Ryan and Eliza Wertenberger. Mr. Smith is also survived by a brother:
Philip of Hoytville, and two sisters: Mrs. Beverly (Mearl) May of McComb, and Mrs. Christina (Thomas)
Shinew of Rudolph, Ohio.
Mr. Smith was a 1949 graduate of Jackson Township High School in Hoytville. He was a lifetime member of
the Hoytville United Methodist Church. He served on the McComb School Board for eight years.
Services will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the Hoytville United Methodist Church
in Hoytville, Ohio, with the Rev. Rick Adams officiating. Internment will be in the McComb Union
Cemetery.
Friends may call at Hartley Funeral Home in McComb on Wed. Aug. 5, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
The family requests tributes be made to the Church Building Fund.
