Elmwood grads list scholarship aid

JERRY CITY – Forty-two members of the Elmwood High School Class of 2009 have accepted scholarship offers
from colleges and universities from around the region.
The following is a list of recent graduates who received aid, and includes information on where they plan
to enroll this fall.
Cody Alexander will major in Criminal Psychology at Tiffin. He received a $3,500 renewable Tiffin
Academic Scholarship.
Mitchell Auchmuty will attend Capital University to study accounting. He received a $10,200 renewable
Capital Grant Award, $10,000 renewable Capital Presidential Scholarship, $1,300 renewable Capital
Connect Award, $1,000 renewable Capital Lutheran Heritage Grant, and $1,000 renewable Capital University
Alumni Grant.
Wyatt Ault will major in history or early childhood education at Kent State University. He received a
$1,500 renewable Kent State Trustee Scholarship, $500 Eldon Elder Scholarship, $500 Kent State Honors
Scholarship, $375 Academic Competitiveness Grant and $250 Kent State Honors Residence Scholarship.
Kyle Benschoter will attend Owens Community College. He accepted a $500 Wood County Farm Bureau
Scholarship.
Marissa Benschoter will major in marketing at Bowling Green State University. She received a $1,500
renewable BGSU Academic Scholarship, $500 LuAnn Roe Downard Scholarship and $400 Portage Township Alumni
Scholarship.
Alex Betts plans to major in computer science at the University of Findlay. He accepted a $12,000
renewable Findlay Dean’s Scholarship, $2,000 renewable Findlay Supplemental Grant, $700 renewable
Institutional Award Grant, $500 renewable Education Opportunity Grant, $100 Bloomdale Commercial Club
Scholarship.
Kaye Bockbrader will major in molecular biology at Defiance College. She received a $12,000 renewable
Defiance Achievement Scholar Program Scholarship, and a $300 Elmwood FFA Alumni Scholarship
Thor Bottesch plans to attend Defiance College to study business. He received a $10,000 renewable
Defiance College Scholarship, $750 Academic Competitiveness Grant, $250 Chris Hoiles Scholarship, and
$200 Friends of Elmwood Basketball Scholarship.
Jennifer Bowsher has chosen Owens Community College. She earned an $800 Anderson’s Employee Scholarship
and a $500 Burger King Scholarship.
Kristi Chapman will study pre-veterinary medicine and animal science at UF. She collected a $13,000
renewable Findlay Presidential Scholarship, $500 Eldon Elder Scholarship, $300 Bloomdale Fire and Rescue
Scholarship, and $200 High School Student Council Scholarship.
Elizabeth Croghan will major in business administration at the University of Northwestern Ohio, Lima. She
accepted a $200 Cygnet Fire Department Scholarship.
Emily Curtis plans to study accounting and finance at UF. She received a $13,000 renewable Findlay
Presidential Academic Scholarship, $1,000 renewable National Elks Foundation Most Valuable Student
Scholar-ship, $540 Huntington Bank Edward "Bus" Rojewski Scholarship, $500 Mr. and Mrs.
Leonard Davis Scholarship, $400 Portage Township Alumni Scholarship, $300 Elmwood FFA Alumni
Scholarship, $250 Michele Wiechman Memorial Scholarship, and $200 High School Student Council
Scholarship.
Audrey Elgin will major in art at Ohio State. She received a $3,000 renewable Scarlet and Gray Grant and
$250 Music Boosters Scholarship.
Jessica Foster plans to major in accounting at BGSU. She received a $5,000 renewable BGSU Academic
Scholarship, $1,000 Ned and Vera Garns Memorial Scholarship, $1,000 Tom Waldock and Jodie Stearns
Scholarship, and $250 Michele Wiechman Memorial Scholarship.
Lyndsy Goebel plans to study nursing at Owens. She collected a $300 Bloomdale Fire and Rescue Scholarship
and $250 Michele Wiechman Memorial Scholarship.
Allie Gonyer will major in early childhood technology at Owens. She received a $100 State Bowling
Scholarship.
Myles Graber has enrolled at BGSU, but hasn’t decided on a major. He received a $3,000 renewable BGSU
Academic Scholarship and $3,000 renewable BGSU Heritage Scholarship.
Kati Graham plans to study nursing at Owens. She received a $375 Friends of Elmwood Scholarship, and $300
Wood County Hospital Scholarship.
Joel Guzman has enrolled at BGSU, where he plans to study political science. He received a $2,552
renewable University Tuition Scholarship for the Underrepresented, $1,500 renewable BGSU Academic
Scholarship, and $1,000 BGSU Bookstore Community Book Loan Scholarship.
Macy Hafner will major in biology at BGSU. She received a $2,496 Falcon Soars Scholarship, $2,496 Ohio
College Opportunity Grant, $1,500 renewable BGSU Academic Scholarship, $1,000 renewable Supplemental
Opportunity Grant, $750 Academic Competitiveness Grant, and $500 renewable Robert C. Romans Biology
Scholarship.
Samantha Haines plans to major in nursing at BGSU. She accepted a $1,500 renewable BGSU Academic
Scholarship, $1,000 BGSU Bookstore Community Book Loan Scholarship, and $250 Michele Wiechman Memorial
Scholarship.
Jacob Hamman plans to major in pre-law at BGSU. He received a $5,000 renewable BGSU Academic Scholarship.

Chelsie Hosmer plans to travel to Florida to study photography at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale.
She received a $700 Ohio Operating Engineers Scholarship.
Samantha Huff will study early childhood education at Owens. She earned a $400 Portage Township Alumni
Scholarship.
Kailey Keaton will major in nursing at BGSU. She received a $1,500 renewable BGSU Academic Scholarship,
$500 G.H.W. Bruggeman Memorial Scholarship, and $300 Bloomdale Fire and Rescue Scholarship.
Andrew Lewallen plans to study mechanical engineering technology at the University of Toledo, which
awarded her a $1,500 renewable Rocket Scholar Award. She also received a $1,000 Gleaner Insurance
Scholarship.
Tara Morlock will major in nursing at BGSU. She received a $1,500 renewable BGSU Academic Scholarship.

Stacie Nagy will major in health care at BGSU. She received , $300 Elmwood FFA Alumni Scholarship and
$200 Sandra S. Houtz Memorial Scholarship.
Megan Oler plans to major in psychology or sociology at BGSU. She collected a $3,000 renewable BGSU
Academic Scholarship and $300 Bloomdale Fire and Rescue Scholarship.
Zach Reichenbach will head to Bluffton College to study health and physical education/recreation. He
received a $9,000 renewable Bluffton Trustees Scholarship.
Amber Reynolds plans to attend Otterbein College to major in early childhood education. She received a
$12,500 renewable Otterbein Presidential Scholarship, $1,000 renewable Otterbein Color Guard
Scholarship, $1,000 Gleaner Life Insurance Scholarship, $500 Elmwood Education Association Scholarship,
$500 PTO Scholarship, $500 Central Joint Fire District Scholarship, $250 Middle School Student Council
Amber Reynolds Scholarship, and $200 Jerry City OCCL Bibs to Beaus Scholarship.
Caroline Reynolds has enrolled at Owens. She accepted a $2,000 Owens Trustees Academic Excellence
Scholarship, $400 Portage Township Alumni Scholarship, and $250 Middle School Student Council Larry
Coffelt Scholarship.
Casie Rizor will major in business administration at Bakersfield College in California. She accepted a
$500 Key Bank Scholarship and $250 Music Boosters Scholarship.
Ryan Rose plans to major in small business management at Owens. He collected a $400 Portage Township
Alumni Scholarship and $400 Owens Post-Secondary Options Book Scholarship.
Brooke Rosendale has selected BGSU, where she will major in early childhood education. She received a
$1,500 renewable BGSU Academic Scholarship, $500 S. Andrew Bish Memorial Scholarship, $500 PTO
Scholarship, and $300 Ladies of the Club Scholarship.
Kim Schnipke plans to major in pre-vet and animal science at UF. She received a $13,000 renewable Findlay
Merit Scholarship, $500 Elmwood FFA Alumni Scholarship, $500 Amber Reynolds Memorial Scholarship, $500
Central Joint Fire District Scholarship, and $500 Wood County Beef Ambassador Scholarship.
Kyle Shaffer has chosen to attend Owens. He received a $400 Portage Township Alumni Scholarship.
Samantha Shaffer will major in pre-vet medicine and animal science at UF. She received a $13,000
renewable Findlay Merit Scholarship, $500 Elmwood FFA Alumni Scholarship, $500 Wood County Farm Bureau
Scholarship, and $400 Portage Township Alumni Scholarship.
Samantha Simon has chosen to University of Toledo, and plans to major in pre-law or paralegal studies.
She received a $2,496 Ohio College Opportunity Grant, $2,000 renewable Rocket Scholar Award, $2,000
Cygnet-Jerry City Alumni Scholarship, $750 Academic Competitiveness Grant, and $600 renewable Federal
Supplemental Grant.
Lewis Stearns will study ag systems management at Ohio State University’s ATI campus. He received a
$1,976 Tom Waldock and Jodie Stearns Scholarship, $1,500 Ohio Home Builders Association Scholarship, and
$500 Elmwood FFA Alumni Scholarship.
Shannon Stewart plans to major in sport business at Mount Union College, Alliance. He earned a $5,500
renewable Mount Union Hartshorn Award, $750 Academic Competitiveness Grant, $250 Chris Hoiles
Scholarship, and $100 Bloomdale Commercial Club Scholarship.
Tanner Tyson will major in chemical and environmental engineering at UT. He received a $6,000 renewable
Rocket Scholar Award and $500 Ronald Bowers Memorial Bradner American Legion Scholarship.
Katie Wineland has enrolled at Ohio Northern University, where she plans to major in Spanish and
international studies. She received a $15,813 renewable Ohio Northern Ministerial Scholarship, $10,500
renewable Ohio Northern Honors Scholar Award, $750 Academic Competitiveness Grant, $200 Wayne Fire
Department Scholarship, and $100 renewable Education Opportunity Grant.
Derek Zyski plans to major in business management at OSU. He received an $800 renewable Ohio State
Academic Scholarship.
