At a time when many Americans are upset about government encroaching into our lives, locally Grand Rapids
has declared economic warfare on private property rights by demanding that the Blue Bird railroad
"clean up" its property. This sounds like a bunch of whining to me.
If the council and mayor are so distraught over someone else’s property appearance maybe they should
offer to purchase it for the going rate and plant flowers all over it. Hopefully no residents or council
members are offended by flowers or we’ll have to go back to the drawing board all over again. More
likely is that council will pursue destructive contentious legal channels to punish this ever so heinous
crime of rusty rail cars. Who are the supposed victims of this crime that would warrant such legal
action? Maintain your own property to your own liking not your neighbors. Opinions always vary, that’s
why we purchase our own property instead of imposing our opinion on someone else’s.
