Mendoza’s attorney withdraws from case
The defense attorney for Cory Mendoza, Matthew Fech, has withdrawn from the case.
Wood County Common Pleas Court Judge Alan Mayberry said "I will reluctantly grant" the motion
after questioning both Mendoza and Fech in court Friday morning.
Fech cited and Mendoza confirmed a "breakdown in communication" as the reason for his
withdrawal.
Mendoza, 20, of McClure, was set to go on trial Aug. 31 on aggravated vehicular homicide charges in the
deaths of William and Sharon DeWitt, both 69, of Weston. Mendoza is alleged to have been driving the car
which caused the accident which killed the couple in October 2008.
Mayberry set a pretrial date of Aug. 7 and indicated the trial may now be pushed back to sometime in
2010. The judge said he hopes to have a new attorney appointed for Mendoza by the new pre-trial date.
