Carol E. (Oberly) Spoerl, 86, of the Sterling House in Bowling Green and formerly of Lime City Road,
Perrysburg, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Wood County Hospital.
She was born in Toledo on October 6, 1922 to Clinton and Hattie (Lukert) Oberly and was a graduate of
Waite High School. She married Richard M. Spoerl on May 15, 1943 in Toledo at St. Frances DeSales
Church.
Carol was a loving wife and mother to seven children and enjoyed spending time at the family cottage at
Lime Lake in Michigan. Carol was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed cross-stitching, crocheting and
swimming.
She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children, Margaret (Gabriel) Zawadzki of Elgin, Ill.; Susan S. (William) Eastlake
of Boise, Idaho; Linda C. (Paul Morrison) Spoerl of Perrysburg; Richard M. Spoerl (Anita Baer) of
Ashland, Neb.; Wendy E. (Steve Postich) Spoerl of Bowling Green; and Gregory J. (Becky) Spoerl of
Perrysburg; son-in-law, Thomas Bates; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2
great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Alice Oberly.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; daughter, Rita M. Bates; grandsons, Richard M.
Spoerl Jr. and Jeffrey Zawadzki; sisters, Maxine Hufford and Dorothy Wresch; and brother Robert Oberly.

Friends will be received from 4 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2009 in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home,
Perrysburg (419-874-3133) where a scripture service will begin at 7 p.m. Prayers will be recited in the
funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009 followed by 10:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at
St. Rose Catholic Church, Perrysburg. Burial will be at St. Rose Cemetery.
