Summer reading program planned for Jerry City

JERRY CITY – "Catch the Summer Reading Bug" is the theme for the fourth annual reading program
planned for area children this year.
Margaret Welty, postmaster at Jerry City and coordinator of the program, hopes this year’s participants
can surpass the total number of books read last summer – about 700 – by the 32 children who were
registered.
"I was quite proud of the kids last summer and I hope this year’s group will be just as
energetic," she said.
Children register for the program at the post office and receive raffle tickets for each book read and
three raffle tickets for each letter written. Once a week, a raffle ticket is drawn and that child is
allowed to go behind the post office counter to help as "junior postmaster" for about an hour.

At the end of the six weeks, a grand prize will be given to the child who reads the most books. Other
prizes also will be awarded for such things as longest book, most letters sent, etc.
Children should begin reading Monday and the contest will continue through Aug. 14. More details are
available at the post office or by calling (419) 655-3297.JERRY CITY – "Catch the Summer Reading
