To the Editor: Don’t risk fireworks at home

This week we will celebrate the birth of our nation with fun, family and fireworks.
No one goes into the 4th of July celebration expecting to be burned or blinded, but data from Prevent
Blindness America indicate that more than 6,000 people will be injured by fireworks and 40% of those
will be children under the age of 15.
So please don’t risk blindness this year with fireworks at home. Instead, come to the Bowling Green
fireworks and enjoy the wonderful show. There will even be a band concert beforehand in Doyt Perry
Remember, even those cute little sparkers burn at up to 1,800 degrees and caused over 1,000 serious
injuries last year. Don’t take the risk. Blindness is forever.
