Reynolds heads to national FCCLA
JERRY CITY – Carolyn Reynolds, a 2009 graduate of Elmwood High School, will compete at the national FCCLA
meet in Nashville July 10-16.
She placed first in fashion construction at the state competition. Students had to design and outfit –
Reynolds’ entry was a coat dress – and develop a budget, a timeline for production, and a five-minute
speech.
Child care center offers car wash
More than 30 children at Owens Community College’s Child Care Center will be armed with buckets of suds
as part of a summer car wash donation drive, today and Wednesday. Proceeds raised from the car wash will
benefit the center’s current Summer School Age Program and its annual "mystery" trip.
The car wash will be at the north corner of College Hall parking lot on the Oregon Road campus. It will
be open both days from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Freewill donations will be accepted at the conclusion of each
individual car
wash. Additionally, children will be selling homemade cookies and lemonade as part of the event.
Hirzel takes 3rd in speech contest
Liz Hirzel, a sixth-grader from Pemberville, won third place and a $50 cash award at the regional speech
contest sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America.
She qualified for the regional event by placing second in the county/district competition.
Also at the county/district event, Abbi Sheldrick, a sixth-grader from Bowling Green, placed first; and
Hope Teggart, a sevent-grader from Bowling Green, placed third.
