George J. "Joe" Blair, 85, of Bowling Green, died Saturday (June 6, 2009) at Blakely Care
Center, Bowling Green.
An Army veteran, he served during World War II.
He worked at Henry Filters as a shear and brake operator. Following retirement he was employed at Al-Mar
Lanes for 10 years.
Mr. Blair was a member of American Legion Post No. 441 in Tontogany, and a life member of Elks Lodge No.
818. He was an avid bowler and was inducted in 1980 into the Bowling Green Bowling Hall of Fame.
Born Sept. 22, 1923 in Bowling Green to George J. and Nina "Blanche" (Artz) Blair, he married
Mabel "Louise" Murray in 1942 and she died in 1970. He married Helen "Pauline" Davis
on Nov. 26, 1970, and she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael K. and Timothy K., both of Bowling Green; a stepson, Robert L.
Davis, Bowling Green; two stepdaughters, Cathleen Sharik and Laureen Davis, both of Naugatuck, Conn.; 12
grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Jolynn L. Wolfe; two brothers, Richard and Vernon; and a
sister, Helen "Betty" Brown.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dunn Funeral Home. Rev. Dan Horner will
officiate. Burial will follow at Plain Township Cemetery.
Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m.
Memorials may be made to the Wood County unit of the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s
choice.
