County tennis players qualify for district

Two doubles teams from Rossford, and a singles player and doubles team from Perrysburg, advanced to the
semifinals of their respective sectional tennis tournaments Thursday.
Perrysburg’s David Hoops and the doubles team of Jon Eckel and Adam Harlow each advanced at the Division
I tournament at Ohio Northern University.
Rossford’s doubles teams of Ryan Evarts and Mark Hotz, and Andrew Bohland and Andy Hotz advanced in the
Division II tournament at Archbold High School.
All semifinalists automatically qualify for advancement to the district tournament next week.
The No. 3 seed, Hoops received a bye in the first round before defeating Bowling Green’s Justin Makley,
6-2, 6-2; and then Celina’s Bryan Robbins, 6-0, 6-2. Hoops will face Findlay’s Chicara Ochima, the No. 2
seed, in the semifinals.
Eckel and Harlow, the No. 4 seed, had a bye before defeating Wapakoneta’s Nolan Klock and Nic Oen (6-1,
6-0). The duo will face Findlay’s Mandela Sheaffer and Jordan Schuck (No. 1 seed) in the semifinals.
The team of Andy Hotz and Bohland won both of their matches, defeating No. 2 seed Hoffman and Wenner of
Napoleon (6-4, 2-6, 6-2) and Tien and Schultz of Defiance (6-1, 6-3). The team will face No. 3 seed
Court and Mackey of Ottawa Hills in the semifinals.
Evarts and Mark Hotz beat Lawrence and Justin Braun of Napoleon (6-3, 6-2) and then No. 4 seed Smiley and
Delman of Maumee Valley, 6-3, 6-4. The team will face No. 1 seed Aubry and Jain of Ottawa Hills.
In other singles matches, Bowling Green’s Davood Dadfar had a bye before defeating Connor Jack of Findlay
(6-2, 6-1). He lost in the quarterfinals, falling to No. 1 seed Alex Hager of Wapakoneta (6-0, 6-1).
BG’s Mitchel Bils (No. 4 seed) received a bye before losing to Wapakoneta’s Austin Hunt (6-2, 6-2) in
the second round. Makley had defeated Danny Drew of Marion Harding (6-2, 6-2) before losing to Hoops in
the second round.
Perrysburg’s Ben Swonger was defeated by Oshima (6-0, 6-0) in the first round. The Yellow Jackets’ Jack
Carter was beaten by Wapakoneta’s Austin Hunt, 6-2, 6-2, in the first round.
In the doubles, BG’s Vincent Chen and Jamie Clair beat Celina’s Tyler Everman and Ryan Rutschilling, 7-6
(4), 6-4, before losing to Schaeffer and Schuck (6-2, 6-3). The Bobcats’ team of Alex Simon and Alden
Carney lost to Joey Armand and Hayden Gephart of Findlay (6-1, 6-0) in the first round.
For Perrysburg, Nate Mowery and Colin Bilski defeated Wapakoneta’s Tanner Zwiebel and Joey Cerda (6-2,
6-1) before falling to No. 2 seed Kyle Miller and Jay McKirnan of Celina, 6-2, 6-1.
For Rossford at singles, Joe Hotz defeated Wauseon’s McClarren (6-3, 6-4) before falling to Altman of
Napoleon (6-2, 3-6, 7-6) in the second round. Tyler Appt defeated Frausto of Defiance (6-2, 6-1) before
falling to Jo. Braun of Napoleon (6-2, 7-6) in the second round. Ollie Goss was defeated by Jamieson of
Ottawa Hills, 6-2, 6-1, in the first round.
Play at both tournaments concludes Saturday.
