PERRYSBURG – Gerald R. Hess, 73, died Sunday (May 10, 2009) at Advanced Specialty Hospital of Toledo.
He was a pipe fitter for Libbey-Owens-Ford for 35 years, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Hess was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir. He also was a member of
Perrysburg Symphony Chorale.
He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, family bonfires and gardening.
Born Nov. 2, 1935 in Perrysburg to Edward and Anna (Drury) Hess, he married Katharine Hasel on May 21,
1955. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Sharon Hess, Pamela Smith and Suzanne Hess; a son, Robert; a sister,
Betty Grolle; a brother, Norman; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ed and Wayne, and two grandsons, Jared and Cole Smith.
The funeral will begin with prayers at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg,
followed by a Mass of Christian burial at the church at 10:15 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Rose
Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. with a scripture service at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Wood County Humane Society or the church’s music ministry.
