PEMBERVILLE – Otterbein Portage Valley Lifestyle Community will likely hit $15,000 raised at its third
annual Mini Relay For Life held Saturday.
As of Thursday $14.971 had been raised with more funds still arriving. There were 12 teams involved this
year and the overall goal was to raise $12,000. Last year more than $10,000 was raised.
Organizers were very pleased and called the event "very successful."
Part of the funds came from the 311 luminaria which were donated in honor of, in memory of, or in thanks
of various cancer victims, survivors and/or supporters.
This annual event celebrates cancer survivors and caregivers while remembering family and friends who
have lost their battle with cancer.
Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society and its various programs.
The "State of Hope" theme showcased a different state for each of the 12 teams involved.
Various specialty laps were held throughout the day. There was also entertainment provided for
participants and supporters.
Otterbein, in partnership with the Relay For Life of Northern Wood County, claims it is the only
retirement community in Ohio to host its own mini relay.
