Churches often house food pantries, and many who don't have one of their own will support the community food pantry. In this holiday season of giving and thanksgiving, most every church congregation makes a special effort to remember those in need.
Among the food drives this year, one involved two young lads who charmed the congregation at a Luckey church, and the staff of Wood County Hospital who honored one of the volunteers by supporting the food pantry at her Bowling Green church.
At Zion United Methodist Church in Luckey, the congregation were surprised as a John Deere tractor came down the aisle? No, it wasn't a full size Deere, but one being pedaled by a young man with a wagon in tow and the driver's brother close at hand.
Although food collections are a regular occurrence, this one was different. As the time for the offering came, Pastor Ernie Sampson of Zion asked two young boys to come forward.

(Editor’s note: The Wood County and area churches will hold a wide variety of Christmas Eve and Day services this year. Those who have reported their service to the Sentinel are listed below.
Around Christmas many churches hold a “Service of Lessons and Carols.” Stonebridge Church in Perrysburg will use that model for its Christmas Eve service. As Dean Eric Milner-White, the originator of this service nearly one hundred years ago said, “The main theme is the development of the loving purposes of God … Seen through the windows and the words of the Bible.”
Each of the congregations will welcome guests and visitors to these holy services which mostly are held on Tuesday night, Christmas Eve.)

There will be a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at Abiding Word Evangelical Lutheran Church at 7 p.m.

The Christmas service for Bowling Green Alliance Church will be held Sunday at 10 a.m. The Christmas Eve Candlelight service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

There will be a 7 p.m. Candlelight Christmas Eve service at Christ’s Church in Bowling Green.

The Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at Church of the Nazarene will be held at 7 p.m.

The Children's Choir of Northwest Ohio presents "Alleluia, Rejoice," a holiday concert at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Organizers ask, "What could be more beautiful than the sound of children's voices accompanied by harp and guitar?"
The public is invited to attend and enjoy this choir along with TAPESTRY, featuring Denise Grupp-Verbon on harp and Michael Grupp-Verbon on guitar. The concert will be presented at Corpus Christi University Parish, 2955 Dorr Street, Toledo.
The choir is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, which aims to "free the musician within." The training choir for children in grades 3-5 is the Jubilate Choir and the auditioned Bel Canto Choir is for children in grades 5-10. Both provide an extracurricular music education experience that brings children from many different schools and backgrounds together to advance their musical talents, sing music together, develop friendships and team-building skills and perform throughout the Toledo area.
