Torrey A. "Bud" Kaatz Jr., born December 14, 1936, passed away January 27, 2014 in Regency
Hospital, Sylvania, Ohio.
Bud was born in Toledo to Torrey and Esther Kaatz. He graduated from Devilbiss High School in 1954 and
went on to graduate from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.
His enthusiasm for sports and love of life permeated all he did.
Bud held various radio and television sports broadcasting positions throughout the country, but to him,
his greatest job was broadcasting the Ohio State basketball games. In 1977, he settled in Scottsdale,
Arizona to be the sports anchor for Channel 12 in Phoenix. After that, Bud became a successful Life
Insurance agent for Central Life/Amerus/Aviva and poured his passion into selling life insurance.
He volunteered countless hours with the Fiesta Bowl as well as numerous other organizations.
He attended Monclova Baptist Church in Monclova, Ohio and Paradise Valley Methodist Church in Paradise
Valley, Arizona.
In 2005, Bud married Margaret (Eppard) Edwards of Toledo, and they spent the last nine years between
Scottsdale and Toledo while traveling the globe.
Bud is survived by his wife, Margaret Kaatz; sons, Torrey (Lorilyn) and Peter (Karin) and granddaughter,
Gabrielle; as well as four stepdaughters, Gail (John Thielen) Price, Karen Price, Susan Price and Kathy
Burdge; stepgrandchildren, Joey Duran, James Price, Jimmy Burdge, Jessica Burdge and Cierra Church. He
was the proud stepgreat-grandfather of Andre’ Williams.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may visit at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee, OH on
Friday January 31, 2014 from 3 to 8 p.m.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Monclova Road Baptist Church, 7819 Monclova
Road, Monclova, OH.Memorial contributions may be made to Seafarers’ Mission, Pastor Van Hemert,
Chaplain, 6178 Via Vermilya, Lantana, Florida 33462; or the Maumee Kiwanis c/o Sunshine Children’s Home,
7223 Maumee-Western Rd. Maumee, OH 43537.
