Marcena C. Sundermeier, age 91, of Bowling Green, OH passed away on Friday, May 9, 2014 at Wood Haven
Health Care, Bowling Green OH.
She was born on July 23, 1922 in Pemberville, OH to Henry and Anna (Sieving) Heckman.
On June 1, 1946 she married Paul Sundermeier, in Pemberville, OH and he preceded her in death on April 9,
2011. Both were classmates and graduated from Webster School in 1940.
Marcena worked along side her husband on their farm, helping in the fields and with the livestock in the
barn. She was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed family, gatherings and sewing. Her memberships included:
Zion Lutheran Church, Luckey, OH, Women of the Church, Lydia Circle for Bible Studies, helped with
Sunday school, Farm Bureau, Luckey Farm Bureau Council, Cowbells and helped with the Pork Producers. She
also sewed many quilts which were sent to Africa thru the E.L.C.A. and to the Cherry Street Mission. In
her spare time she enjoyed traveling with her husband, Paul seeing all 50 states including Alaska and
the Yukon. They went underground 3200 ft into a potash mine on a private tour.
Paul and Marcena also went on farm tours to 5 countries in Europe. They were involved in many daring and
exciting adventures. For over a period of 15 years they traveled to Florida and Texas for the 3 winter
months.
Marcena is survived by her children: Lee (Diana) Sundermeier of Weston, Janet (Jeff) Elliot of
Perrysburg, Alan (Sandra) Sundermeier of Bowling Green, Keith (Julie) Sundermeier of Bowling Green, 10
grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her parents, husband: Paul, brothers: Clarence and Raymond Heckman and sisters:
Bernice Witker and Velma Henline.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, May 12, 2014 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM from the Marsh
Funeral Home, 110 Main Street, Luckey, OH. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 13 2014 at
11 AM from Zion Lutheran Church, Luckey, OH with additional visitation from 10 AM until time of
services. Officiating will be Randy Winsand. Interment will be in Troy Twp. Cemetery, Luckey, OH. There
will be a bereavement luncheon served at the church immediately following the cemetery committal
services. Consideration for memorial contributions are to: Zion Lutheran Church or Williston Home of
