Julia A. (McCorkle) Imbrie, 90, of Bowling Green, died of natural causes at The Heritage in
Bowling Green on December 26, 2013.She was born in Tipton, Indiana to Glen and Lucille (Woods) McCorkle on
February 7, 1923.She graduated from high school in Tipton. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO,
and graduated from Northwestern University in Chicago in 1944.Julia then joined the American Red Cross and
served on the USS Black warship and in India during World War II. She met her future husband, Greer S.
Imbrie (a Navy Chaplain), on the USS Black, and they were married in 1946.After the war, Greer continued his
work as a Presbyterian Minister and served a number of congregations. During the Korean Conflict, the family
was stationed at the Naval Base in Key West, FL. In 1954, Greer and Julia moved to Bowling Green to serve
the First Presbyterian Church.Julia was very involved with the Presbyterian Church for many years as a
member of a women’s circle, as a Sunday school teacher, as a member of the church choir and as a cook of
many church suppers. Julia then studied children’s literature (which she said was to become a better mother)
at BGSU and was then asked to teach the course. She taught Children’s Literature as an Adjunct Professor at
BGSU during the 1970s and 1980s.Later in her life, Julia became an avid investor in stocks and enjoyed being
a member of the Mount Ararat Investment Club and the National Association of Investment clubs. Julia was a
perfectionist, and during her long life became an excellent seamstress, cook, maker of furniture, teacher of
children’s literature and investor.Julia was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Greer, her
sister, Dorothy (Betty) Dennis, and her daughter, Ann.She is survived by her son, Greer and his wife Jeap,
her daughter, Charity and partner, Jane Barnes, her daughter, Katy and husband Brook Milligan, and three
grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.A Celebration of Life service will be held at the First
Presbyterian Church in Bowling Green on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 2 p.m. Visitation for family and
friends will begin at 1 p.m until the service time on Saturday at the church. Revs. Gary and Mary Jane
Saunders will officiate.All those attending are invited to a post funeral reception at the church.DUNN
