R. Elaine Green, 69, of Venice, Fla. and a long-time former resident of Bowling Green, died Monday, April 29, 2013 at Venice House Hospice from complications of lung cancer. Her closest family members were with her until the end, and in a manner typical of Elaine, she maintained a sense of humor in an effort to lighten their distress. She died as gracefully as possible under such circumstances. A class act all the way! Elaine was born September 10, 1943 to Alvin and Ruth (Painter) Eckman in Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in elementary education and subsequently taught in the public schools for a number of years. She married Fred Green, the love and friend of her life, in 1966 and he survives in Venice, Fla. Before she and Fred moved from Bowling Green to Texas and subsequently to Florida, she was the friendly face of the Little Shop at BGSU as well as a helpful presence at the University Book Store.
