TOLEDO - A plea deadline in the federal case of an area businessman who owned seven regional IHOP franchises has been extended.
On Friday, U.S. Judge David Katz granted a motion to extend the deadline from Jan. 31 to Feb. 28 in the case of Tarek "Terry" Elkafrawi, Middleton Township.
The motion, filed by Elkafrawi's attorneys, said that "involvement of defendant's counsel in other matters has precluded proper preparation and analysis to enable the defendant to make an informed determination."
A court document filed last summer previously indicated that Elkafrawi "has not and does not plan to" offer a plea.

With predictions of snowfall ranging between six and 10 inches by Wednesday afternoon, Bowling Green officials talked openly Monday night about declaring a “pre-emptive” snow emergency in order to get vehicles off designated snow streets.
“The city is always somewhat hesitant, but sometime after 2 p.m. Tuesday, long before the first flake is supposed to fall, the city will likely act to get vehicles off snow streets,” Municipal Administrator John Fawcett told city council. When declared the snow emergency gives those with vehicles parked on snow streets two hours to remove them or face a tow or ticket. There were 11 vehicles towed and 19 tickets issued Sunday during an eight-hour snow emergency.
