Relay for Life of Southern Wood County announces 2014 honorary survivor PDF Print E-mail

Relay For Life of Southern Wood County has named the 2014 Honorary Survivor, Carol McCullough.
McCullough is a 20-year survivor of  cervical cancer. She first got involved in Relay For Life in 1998 and has served as both a Team Captain and Committee Member.
McCulloughl will be honored during the opening ceremonies of the 2014 Relay For Life of Southern Wood County being held May 16-17 at Bowling Green High School football stadium.
Opening ceremonies begin at 6 p.m.
Friday events include: Live auction hosted by auctioneer Shad Ridenour, silent auction, a performance by local band Steel Wynd, and the Ms. Relay pageant. The luminaria ceremony will begin at 10 p.m. with a performance by the BGHS Madrigals.

Financial donations are being sought for the 2014 Bowling Green fireworks.
The annual event, coordinated by the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce, will be held July 3 beginning at dusk - approximately 10 p.m. - on the intramural fields at Bowling Green State University. The fireworks will feature the BG Area Community Band, which will play from the Mileti Alumni Center at 8 p.m. The rain date is July 4.
The chamber has supported the fireworks since 1935.
Donations may be sent to the chamber, P.O. Box 31, Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. Checks should be made payable to Bowling Green Fireworks.

More than 450 firefighters will spend next week at Bowling Green State University chopping holes in vacant buildings, sifting through charred remains for evidence of arson and rappelling down the football stadium as part of State Fire School.
"We welcome the public safety forces and are proud to provide the latest, valuable training in their ever-changing and dangerous profession," said Kerry Gonzalez, assistant director of State Fire School, which is part of BGSU's College of Arts and Sciences. The university has coordinated the school since 1974.
The firefighters represent 132 fire departments and brigades from Ohio and Michigan, as well as Ontario, Canada. Fire instructors from Ohio, Florida, Kentucky, Indiana, South Carolina and New York will teach the classes, which will be held from Monday to May 16.
Four-car crash near Waterville Bridge sends two to hospital PDF Print E-mail

WATERVILLE - Two people were taken to Wood County Hospital Wednesday following a four-car crash near the Waterville Bridge that snarled traffic.
The Wood County Sheriff's Office reports that at 3:49 p.m. vehicles driven by David Simpson, Waterville; Sallyann Miles, Perrysburg; and Anthony Groves, Bowling Green, were stopped eastbound on Ohio 64 near the stop sign at Ohio 65. Several vehicles were ahead of them.
At that time, a vehicle driven by Dan Willcutt III, Toledo, also eastbound, failed to stop and struck Groves' vehicle, starting a chain-reaction crash that pushed Groves into Miles, who then struck Simpson.
Bike for Sight benefits Lions Club in Portage PDF Print E-mail

PORTAGE - Bike for Sight will be held Saturday on the Slippery Elm Trail.
Registration will be open from 8 to 10 a.m. at Portage Methodist Church, West Main Street.
The bike ride will utilize the entire length of the trail but there are several distance options.
Snacks and water will be provided along the route for registered participants. Riders under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is $6 per rider and monies raised will go to the Portage Lions Club.
If riders have eyeglasses no longer in use, take them to donate to the club's eyeglass recycle program.
