Black Swamp Quilters meet
The Black Swamp Quilt Guild will hold its May meeting this Thursday at 7 p.m. The guild meets at the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Simpson Building at 1291 Conneaut Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m. Visitors are welcome.
Member Jean Overmeyer will present a program about different quilt finishing, edges, and designs.  For a raffle, members are asked to bring fat quarters with large prints, wavy lines, triangles, geometric, angular, or dots (no stars or stripes).

Herb and Becky Dettmer, Bowling Green, announce the engagement of their son, Petty Officer Andrew Dettmer, to Kate Schuller, daughter of Ricahrd and Susan Schuller, Mansfield.
The prospective groom is a graduate of Lakewood High School, Lakewood, Ohio, and is currently serving in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the USCG Cutter Abbie Burgess out of Rockland, Maine.
The bride-to-be is a graduate of Ontario High School, Mansfield; Tiffin University; and will soon receive a master's degree in social work from the University of Kansas.
The wedding will take place June 15 at First United Methodist Church of Mansfield.

Laureate Beta Theta chapter’s Order of the Rose recipients are (from left) Karen Dauer, Marilyn West and Sheryl Majoras.
The Bowling Green Chapters of Beta Sigma Phi held their Spring Rituals at the Bowling Green Country Club on Sunday afternoon.
Diane Beaverson, Becki Kerr, Jan Ruffner and Laura Schultes of Xi Gamma Kappa Chapter were given the Preceptor Ritual. Brenda Babcock was the reader, assisted by Karen Dauer, Sheryl Majoras and Dee Miller.            
Marilyn West read the Silver Circle, assisted by Mary Ann Book, Colleen Smith and Chris Nickey.  The Silver Circle recipient was Robin Spoores of Laureate Beta Theta. She has been a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 25 years. 
The new Torchbearer Ritual, recognizing senior status and many years of service to the sorority, was given to RuahBuckingham and Judy Snyder of Alpha Epsilon Master Chapter.  It was read by Smith, assisted by Mary Tonjes, Vicki Harris and Book.

SWANTON - The program "An Evening with Peggy Brown presenting 'Anatomy In Motion - The Visible Rider'" will be held Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Centerline Farm, 14124 Sherman-White Road. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
The event is a benefit for Serenity Farm Equestrian Center at Luckey.

Wearing a skeleton suit, Petty Brown mounts up to demonstrate how the rider's body works. She will show good dynamic balance as well as common rider mistakes at all gaits. The Visible Rider has been a popular attraction at major equine expos and clinics in North America, Europe, Australia and Japan.
Serenity Farm Equestrian Center has a volunteer base with quality horses and professional alliances. All proceeds directly benefit children and families participating in equine-assisted programming there.

Moms enter free on Mother's Day at the zoo
TOLEDO - On May 12, which is Mother's Day, the Toledo Zoo will offer all moms free zoo admission when accompanied by one or more children.
There will be free flowers, while supplies last, and activities in Nature's Neighborhood from 12 to 3 p.m. The Mother's Day celebration is sponsored by Meijer.
In addition, the zoo hosts a full-service Mother's Day brunch in the Nairobi Pavilion, near the Africa! exhibit. Times, prices and menu details are at toledozoo.org . The brunch fills fast, so early reservations are necessary. Call (419) 385-5721, ext. 6001.
The zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Starting this Saturday, weekend hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located on the Anthony Wayne Trail (U.S. 25), four miles south of downtown Toledo.
