Prep Roundup: Eastwood boys win regional track title (06-02-14)

Eastwood’s boys track and field team won a Division II regional championship Saturday at Lexington High
School.
The Eagles won two events and finished second in two others, and finishd with a total of 61 points.
Caledonia River Valley was second with 44, while Ontario was third with 40,
Eastwood’s Tim Hoodlebrink won the 800 in 1:55.11, and the Eagles’ 1,600 relay team of Hoodlebrink,
Brennan Seifert, Joe Salinas and Devin Snowden won in 3:18.01.
The Eagles’ second-place finishers were the 400 relay team of Grant Geiser, Snowden, Seifert and Jake
Hoodlebrink (42.82); and Snowden in the 300 hurdles (38.12).
The times in the 400 and 1,600 relays, and Snowden’s time in the 300 hurdles were school records.
The top four finishers in each event qualified for this weekend’s state meet at Ohio State University.

Also for Eastwood, Salinas was fifth in the 300 hurdles (39.16), Seifert was fifth in the 200 (22.84) and
Noah Smith was eighth in the 800 (1:59.08).
"We performed very well," Eastwood coach Brian Sabo said. "We just asked the guys to give
great effort and to invest in their races, and to run for each other, and the points would take care of
themselves.
"I’m thrilled to have another week of this coaching staff and these kids being together because it’s
so much like a family. We really enjoy our time together."
On Thursday, Eastwood won the 3,200 relay and Snowden was third in the long jump.
Hoodlebrink was fourth in the 800 at state last year, while Snowden was seventh in the 300 hurdles.
Lake’s Brandyn Neal was seventh in the 400 (50.45).

GIRLS
Rossford’s Clay wins 400,
finishes 3rd in 200
At Lexington High School, Rossford’s Regan Clay won the 400 and the was third in the 200 to qualify for
state.
The top four finishers in each event advanced.
Clay won the 400 in 57.45 and was third in the 200 in 25.66.
Clay was a three-event state qualifier as ran a leg on Rossford’s 800 relay team that advanced.
The team of Taylor Stolar, Jessica Pietrasz, Shelby Redway and Clay was third in 1:44.83.
Pietrasz was sixth in the 400 (59.43), and the Bulldogs’ 1,600 relay team of Redway, Clay, Stolar and
Pietrasz was seventh in 4:09.69.
Eastwood’s Brittany Brittian advanced to state in the discus where she finished third (119-2).
Also for the Eagles, Hannah Sponaugle was fifth in the 1,600 (5:24.79), Elise Wolff was fifth in the pole
vault (10-4) and Maddie Jackson was eighth in the 800 (2:23.55).
Elmwood’s Courtney Emmitt was seventh in the pole vault (10-0) and Madison Sears was eighth in the 400
(60.40).

DIVISION II
At Dayton/Welcome Stadium
Gorski, Avers qualify for state
Otsego’s Cole Gorski qualified for state with second-place finishes in the 100 and the 200, and Brandon
Avers advanced with a fourth-place finish in the 1,600.
The top four finishers in each event qualified for state.
Gorski had a time of 10.98 in the 100 and 22.17 in the 200.
Gorski is a three-event state qualifier after winning the pole vault Thursday.
Avers had a time of 4:23.33 in the 1,600. He was eighth in the 3,200 (10:10.16).
Otsego finished fourth in the regional with 32 points. Dayton Dunbar won with 91, while Carroll was
second with 43 and Wauseon was third with 32.

REGIONAL SOFTBALL
DIVISION IV
Wayne Trace 2, Lakota 1
In Findlay at Marathon Diamonds, Wayne Trace took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and held off Lakota to
win a regional championship and advance to the state semifinals.
The Raiders scored their two runs on four hits, but were limited to three hits the rest of the way.
Lakota scored in the seventh when Nikkia Cooper singled home Brianna Ray, but the Raiders left the tying
run on base.
Lakota finished the season 20-8, while Wayne Trace improved to 22-7.
