PERRYSBURG - Mark Delas has been a big part of Perrysburg's baseball program for the last four years.
As a freshman, Delas made critical pinch-hit appearances in the state semifinals and state finals, recording a seventh-inning doubles in both.
Now a senior, Delas faces a task that might prove to be even more pressure-laden. He will be the face and leader of a team coming off a 27-4 season, which included a 13-1 Northern Lakes League record, good for a league title.
Delas batted .408 a season ago with 31 RBI, and is one of nine returning letter winners, including five returning starters. The Yellow Jackets advanced to a regional semifinal last season.
"Mark is going to have to realize that without somebody sitting behind him in the lineup, he's not going to see anything to hit. If they throw him a fastball, they are crazy," said Perrysburg coach Dave Hall, who is entering his 29th season at the helm of the Yellow Jackets.

JERRY CITY -  Most know about the tradition Elmwood's softball program has built over the last 15 years.
The Royals have won 301 games since Matt Hoiles took over.
And with eight letter winners back from last year's Northern Buckeye Conference championship team, Elmwood expects nothing less than to repeat.
"It's a relief knowing that we have a lot of experienced girls here. They know what to expect and they know what they have to do," said center fielder Madison Arnold, who batted .410 last season with 30 RBI.
Elmwood also returns junior starting pitcher Miranda Benschoter. Benschoter was 21-4 with a 1.81 ERA and 181 strikeouts last season. She has developed immensely since her freshman year, and Hoiles expects her to be one of if not the top pitcher in the conference this year.
"I've seen a different Miranda Benschoter this year," Hoiles said. "She is now older and her speed has increased and her movement on the ball has increased. That's come with strength, but I also think she understands now. … She's come back this year with a lot of knowledge of what hurt her the previous two years and she's worked on it."

NORTHERN LAKES LEAGUE
BOWLING GREEN
Coach: Jim Cress, fifth season.
2013 record: 6-21 overall, 1-13 in the NLL.
Returning letter winners: Seniors - Kelsey Parker, infielder; Hanna Williford, pitcher/outfielder; Hanna Addy, catcher; and Reagan Morman, infielder. Juniors - Emily Sidle, infielder; Anna Szabo, infielder, outfielder; Harper Craft, outfielder; and Kenzie White, outfielder. Sophomores - Angie Hoffsis, infielder, outfielder.
Coach's comment: "The players have responded well to the increased intensity and expectations in practices this year. The younger players are challenging returning lettermen for starting spots and the internal competition is the best it's been in a while.  We're going to put the best team on the field for each game, and expect to compete in every game, and improve significantly upon last year's record."
