Terra plans skilled trades open house

Terra State Community College is hosting a Skilled Trades Open House on Aug. 7 from 4 to 7 p.m.
"I virtually get calls on a daily basis from businesses looking for HVACR technicians," said
Associate Professor Steve Bender. "All of our graduates are employed, so I know there is a
shortage. We need more students in our program."
The open house will include the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration program as well
as Terra State’s welding and automotive programs. It will be in the Skilled Trades Center where all
three programs are located.
"These are all jobs that can’t be outsourced," said Dean Andy Carroll. "And they are
good-paying jobs that are more plentiful than there are skilled people to fill them. We are hoping
would-be students come and take a look."
There will be tours and demonstrations in the three state-of-the-art labs, and representatives from
several companies will be on hand. Those include: Gundlach Sheet Metal, Refrigeration Sales Corp,
Emerson Climate Technologies and Materion Corporation.
In addition, there will also be information available about how Terra State can help people start a
career as a tool and die maker or an industrial electrician.
Representatives from Admissions and Financial Aid will also be available to answer questions.
If the time is inconvenient, appointments can be made for a personal tour. Call 419-559-2349 for more
details.
