Perrysburg Schools, Way Library partner for reading event

PERRYSBURG – Perrysburg Schools and Way Public Library are partnering for a community-wide book
discussion on March 26.
Students grades sixth through eighth at Perrysburg Junior High School have all read Sharon Draper’s book,
"Out of My Mind." They passed the book between the three grade levels and are now passing the
400 books on to the community.
"Out of My Mind" is a compelling story that appeals to readers of all ages. Melody, the
protagonist, is highly intelligent and yet sadly unable to communicate with those around her. Then one
day she obtains assistive technology that finally allows her to share her thoughts with the world, and
some are not ready to hear what she has to say.
Community members are encouraged to pick up a copy of "Out of My Mind" from Way Public Library
and read it in preparation for a public reception and book discussion with author Sharon Draper at Way
Public Library on March 26 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. An audiobook version may also be checked out on CD from
Way Library. If they finish before the discussion, they may return it to Way Public Library or pass it
along to a friend. Before passing it along, there is a sticker after the last page of the story where
readers are encouraged to share their favorite quote.
"We are very excited to partner with the schools," stated Janel Haas, library director.
"What a neat way to engage our entire community and to promote the notion of being lifelong readers
and learners to the children in our community."
"Our students have really enjoyed the book and I know they are going to love Sharon Draper when she
comes to visit on March 26," stated Kadee Anstadt, executive director of Teaching and Learning for
Perrysburg Schools. "We’re honored to partner with Way Library and we feel that adding this
community component will really enrich this experience for the students."
