Otsego board recognizes student-athlete A.J. Digby

TONTOGANY – Otsego High School student A. J. Digby was praised for his accomplishments at the
International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports World Games Junior Championships, held in Puerto Rico this
summer.Digby, a sophomore at Otsego High School, received recognition at the school board’s monthly meeting
on Tuesday.The double below-the-knee amputee won two gold medals at the games, one in the discus – in which
he set an American and world junior record with a throw of 100-0, and another in shot put. He also earned a
silver medal in the 100 meters, a bronze medal in the 400 meters, and placed fourth in the long jump.He
additionally runs track and plays golf for Otsego High School.In other business, the board:• Approved the
hiring of Otsego fifth-grade teacher Mark Nofziger as the district’s junior varsity baseball coach.• Heard
that they have received $100,000 in federal Race to the Top money. This is the fourth year of that grant.•
Heard that a few rows of the football stadium bleachers on the visitors’ side will need to be replaced. The
bleachers were reportedly damaged during the recent Bowling Green/Otsego football game. Fans had apparently
been bouncing on the bleachers during the game, causing the damage.• Voted 4-1 to approve the Otsego Teacher
Evaluation Policy. Board President Mark Tolles was the lone "no" vote.
