With a three-round, 36-person WNBA draft it was a longshot for Lauren Prochaska to have her name called
on draft day.
Things still worked out very well for Prochaska, who finished her stellar four-year career at Bowling
Green as the leading scorer in school history.
She’s going to get the opportunity to play against some of the best women’s players in the world.
The 5-foot-11 Prochaska recently signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Storm, who won the WNBA
championship last season.
"It’s a really cool thing. I know there are going to be some great players out there, so it will be
fun," Prochaska said in a telephone interview Tuesday. "It’s exciting. It’s going to be a
whole new level of play.
"The day of the draft (my agent) texted me and said they (Seattle) wanted me at training camp and
asked if I would be willing to go there. I said yes," Prochaska added. "A couple of hours
later their coach, Brian Agler, called me and said he was really excited for me to come up for the camp
and filled me in on what was going on."
A veteran women’s basketball coach, Agler has Ohio ties and is a Wittenberg University graduate. He was
an All-America and is the school’s assists leader at Wittenberg.
Prochaska said her agent told her several other teams showed an interest, but Seattle wanted her the
most.
"It’s nice to know that I’m going to get to go and try out and have a shot at playing
somewhere," Prochaska said.
Seattle’s training camp starts May 15. Prochaska plans to go home to Plain City for a few days after
finals. She then will go to Seattle before the camp starts to get a physical.
"They still have two spots open, so there will be competition for those two spots," Prochaska
said.
"I don’t really have anything to lose at this point," she continued. "I’m just going to go
there and play as hard as I can and do my best and see what happens.
"It’s just a great opportunity ,and I’m excited to go out there and play with some of the best
players."
Prochaska battled an injury to her left foot last season. She wore a boot to protect the foot and was
held out of practice, only playing full-go on game days.
She has been out of the boot for a little over a week and is back on the floor working on her game.
"It still bothers me a little bit, but not how bad it used to be," Prochaska said. "I feel
a lot better, and I’m almost back to normal. That’s exciting for me."
The biggest problem with the injury was not being able to practice, Prochaska said.
"The hardest part was losing the rhythm of how it felt to play in a game; the up-and-down (the
floor) and shooting with someone guarding you and all that stuff," Prochaska said. "It’s just
hard to miss all that practice and go in a game and try to play in that type of situation was really
hard.
"My foot would feel pretty good game-to-game with all the rest that I was getting," she added.

Prochaska needs to complete an internship and then she can graduate with her degree in sport management.
