An event next month is seeking to raise awareness for three local organizations that serve children and
families.
The CCC Awareness Event will be held Nov. 9 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the arts district of the Bowling Green
State University Campus.
The event’s aim is to bring the Friends of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children), the
Children’s Resource Center, and the Cocoon Shelter into the spotlight.
"Friends of CASA and CRC and Cocoon are all wonderful organizations that serve children and
families," said Alice Calderonello, chair of the event’s planning committee, "but to my
knowledge… this is their first collaboration."
Tickets for the event are $30 and will include a variety of entertainment and food.
"These organizations, the people who volunteer for them, they care about children and they care
about benefitting and serving children and their families," she said.
"If these organizations can get some volunteers from this event on Nov. 9, that would be the most
wonderful thing. We would love to get some more volunteers."
The event, a collaboration with the Identity Project initiative, has been 18 months in the making. It
will kick off at 3 p.m. in the galleries of the Fine Arts Center for a viewing of two art exhibits,
including "Telling Truths/Speaking Secrets."
From 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. a catered reception will be held next door in the lobby of the Wolfe Center,
featuring a cash bar. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on fashion accessories in a silent
auction. Live music will be presented by College of Musical Arts students.
At 4:30 p.m. a fashion show featuring the silent auction items will be held in the Donnell Theater at the
Wolfe Center.
Participating in the fashion show will be Bowling Green Mayor Richard Edwards, BGSU President Mary Ellen
Mazey, BGSU Chief Equity and Diversity Coordinator Barbara Waddell, Wood County Commissioner Doris
Herringshaw, Bowling Green Councilwoman Theresa Charters Gavarone, Perrysburg Councilman Tom Mackin,
Wood County ADAMHS Director Tom Clemons and Margaret Tucker.
The show will be moderated by Lisa Lockford of the Department of Theatre and Film, with music provided by
College of Musical Arts faculty.
The event will close with live stand-up comedy presented by Theatre and Film students.
Winning bidders will be able to pick up their silent auction items after the show.
Tickets must be purchased in advance with cash or a check made out to Friends of CASA. Tickets are
available from members of the boards of Friends of CASA, the CRC and the Cocoon Shelter, and the BGSU
Identity Committee. They may also be purchased at the CRC itself, 1045 Klotz Road, Bowling Green. Call
