Need community service hours? Want to help a local organization host a fun holiday event? With the Independence Day holiday weekend approaching, the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce is seeking volunteers to help with the BG BOOM Community Festival and Fireworks on July 3 at the Wood County Fairgrounds and the Pork-a-Lean Fundraiser, June 21, at the downtown farmers market.

Volunteer activities are in two-hour micro-shifts. More information on both events can be found on the chamber website.

Also, an aluminum can fundraiser is supporting the festival.

Taking used cans to either Bates Recycling or Work Leads to Independence. Bates Recycling will contribute to the BG BOOM Festival and Fireworks fund for each pound of cans donated.

Bates Recycling is at 12729 Jerry City Road in Cygnet. They will still pay out the standard rate for a donation while also donating to the BG BOOM Festival and Fireworks fund.

Work Leads to Independence at 991 S. Main Street is also accepting can donations, with drop off available from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Take all donations to the south side of the building, with collection to the right of the large overhead door.

For those who would like to borrow a portable receptacle for their party or event, a few will be on hand to loan out with the completion of a Container Loan Application for Wood County Solid Waste Management District at WLI or WCSWMD. The application form for a container loan is available on the chamber website.

More details on the BG BOOM Festival and Fireworks, including schedule of events, other fundraising opportunities, sponsorships, games and attractions at the festival, will come as the event draws closer and can be found at bgchamber.net/annual.
