Falcon freshmen swimmers find success at Akron

­AKRON, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team concluded the Zips Classic, finishing second in a field of five teams with a cumulative score of 785.

On Saturday, the Falcons totaled three top-five finishes across the three relay races. Headlined by a 4th place finish in the 200 Medley and two fifth-place finishes in the 200 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle relays.

Individually, senior swimmer Taylor Harris led the way for the Falcons with two top-five finishes. Harris placed third in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:03.75 and fourth in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 2:19.06. Harris also swam a leg in the fourth placed 200 Medley Relay team. Ava Vial finished third in the 400 IM with a time of 4:30.20 and fifth in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:06.77.

Livia Castro and Gabby Vitela finished in the top 10 in the 1650 Freestyle. Castro finished seventh with a time of 17:40.12 and Vitela kept pace with a time of 17:46.91 and an eighth-place finish.

Falcon divers also made splash at Akron’s Ocasek Natatorium. Junior Rayah Blood won the 3-Meter Dive with a score of 243.85 and was followed by three other Falcons. Julia Januszewska finished fourth with a score of 211.45 with Grace Ellis and Sarah Butt finishing fifth and sixth respectively with scores of 210.20 and 204.80. Elise Snyder also finished in the top 10, placing ninth with a score of 198.40.

Day two of competition featured Falcon freshmen at their finest. Emily McNichol swam to a top-three finish in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 55.85 and seventh place finish in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:04.41. McNichol managed to swim a leg in each of the three top-five relay teams, as well. Fellow freshman Backstroke swimmer Morgan Sokol also found success at Akron with a third-place finish in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:02.78 and a sixth-place finish in the 100 Backstroke and a time of 57.80.
