BGSU’s Moore runner-up at Spork Invitational

YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Bowling Green State University women’s golf team finished fourth at Eastern Michigan University’s Shirley Spork Invitational on Tuesday.

The two-day, 54-hole, 10-team event took place at the Eagle Crest Golf Club, a par-72, 6,175-yard course.

BGSU shot 290 in the second round, the best of all 10 teams, but shot 320 on the final day to slip to fourth.

“We are disappointed with our finish today,” BGSU coach Fahey said. “We were in position to play well and have a solid finish but were unable to execute.

From the No. 3 position, sophomore MacKenzie Moore finished tied for the individual runner-up spot in the tournament at a 7-over-par 223. Moore shot 74, 71 and 78 in her three 18-hole rounds.

BGSU senior Kayla Davis finished No. 6 overall at plus-10 (226) and freshman Olivia Steen, playing in her first collegiate tournament, finished tied for No. 23 at plus-19 (235).

“Congratulations to MacKenzie Moore for her second-place finish and to Kayla Davis for her sixth-place finish,” Fahey said. “We are going to get back to work and are looking forward to competing in the last two events of the fall.”

BGSU senior Savannah Wyrick concluded her tournament at plus-26. BGSU freshman Averi Mickelson rounded out the BGSU lineup at plus-30.

Central Michigan (902) won the tournament, followed by Eastern Michigan (922), Oakland (922) and BGSU (925).

Following the Falcons were Loyola (931), Western Michigan (931), Green Bay (935), Akron (944), Ohio (947) and Detroit Mercy (978).

Competing as an individual, BGSU junior Emily Pantig-Nystrom finished 29-over-par, shooting 245.
