A Perrysburg resident and a Bowling Green State University student were both crowned Saturday at the Miss
Maumee Valley pageant, a preliminary to the Miss Ohio and Miss America scholarship pageants.
Becky Minger, a senior at BGSU, was crowned Miss All-American City 2010 during the pageant, held at the
Maumee High School Performing Arts Center. She also won the overall talent and interview portions of the
competition.
Minger, of Sylvania, is now qualified to compete for the title of Miss Ohio in June, and with a win will
represent Ohio at Miss America 2011. This will be her fifth trip to Miss Ohio, where she has been named
first runner-up three times.
Her achievements at Miss Ohio have also qualified her to compete at the Miss National Sweetheart Pageant,
along with the first runners-up from 41 other states, where she has been selected into the Top 10 on
this national stage, in both 2008 and 2009.
Minger is currently completing her final semester at BGSU. She will graduate in December with a Bachelor
of Arts in Communications, majoring in interpersonal communications with a minor in political science.

She is a graduate of Sylvania Northview High School.
There were also two teens crowned as part of the Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen scholarship program, an
affiliate pageant. One of them,

Sophie Carter of Perrysburg, won the title of Miss Maumee Valley Outstanding Teen.
Carter, a 16-year-old junior at Perrysburg High School, is the daughter of Jerry and Sandi Carter.
Her platform is breast cancer awareness. This is her second year of competition at the Miss Maumee Valley
Scholarship program. Carter was first runner-up at state competition last June as Miss All-American
City’s Outstanding Teen. This year she is Miss Maumee Valley’s Outstanding Teen.
Young women from Defiance and Union City won the two other Miss crowns awarded Saturday, and will advance
to Miss Ohio along with Minger.
Miss America contestants are 17 to 24. Those eligible for the teen competition are 14 to 17.
The Miss America Organization is the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women.
Last year, Miss America and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in
cash and scholarship assistance.
