The Great Lakes Chess Association (GLCA) and the Montessori School of Bowling Green Chess Boosters is
hosting the 2009 Ohio Grade Level Chess Championship at Owens Community College in Perrysburg on Nov.
21.
This marks the first time the event has been held in Northwest Ohio in 20 years. The event will be held
in the Student Health and Activity Center just east of Oregon Road on the college campus.
The event is open to any student enrolled in an Ohio school or is home schooled in Ohio currently in
grades K-12. A current United States Chess Federation (USCF) membership is required for participants in
all sections with a special offer for those in K-3 to receive a free one-year membership if a new
member. There will be both individual and team competitions with individual winners being hailed as
"Ohio Champion" for their grade level.
College scholarships will be awarded to individual section winners.
Doors open for the championships at 8 a.m. with the first of five rounds beginning at 10. Each
participant will play every round, unless a bye is requested.
Advanced registration is required for all sections, with a fee of $35; all entries must be received by
Nov. 18. In addition there is a reduced entry fee of $15 for students on free and reduced lunches. More
information, registration forms and on-line registration can be found at www.greatlakeschess.org.
