Despite Piersons’ 264 yards passing, Royals fall, 31-6

METAMORA — Evergreen scored four touchdowns in the second and third quarters, defeating Elmwood, 31-6, in both football teams’ season opener Friday.

Mitchel Oliver scored the Royals’ only touchdown, catching an eight-yard pass from quarterback Parson Piersons with 10:13 remaining in the game.

Piersons completed 24-of-43 passes for 264 yards with one interception.

Kade Lentz caught five passes for 70 yards, Micah Oliver caught four passes for 63 yards, Brennan Hiser had four catches for 56 yards, Mitchel Oliver had four catches for 43 yards, Andrew Traxler caught three passes for 17 yards, and Gavin Solarik had three catches for 15 yards.

Hiser ran for 62 yards on 17 carries and Traxler ran for 18 yards on eight carries.

Hiser led the Elmwood defense with eight tackles, an assist, and a fumble recovery, Javie Almarez had seven tackles and three assists, and Piersons had an interception.
