Rossford’s St. Julian joins Stritch coaching staff

OREGON — Rossford resident Alexa St. Julian is joining the Cardinal Stritch volleyball coaching staff, taking charge of the junior varsity team and joining a new triple threat coaching staff for the Cardinals.

St. Julian states that she is thrilled to be joining the Stritch program and becoming a part of the Cardinal community.

Logan Manders has been named head coach of the varsity volleyball team for the Cardinals. Coach Manders says she is grateful that Brittany LeGare will be coaching by her side as assistant varsity coach, as well as adding St. Julian.

“I am pleased to have Logan lead our volleyball program into the future,” Athletic Director Denny Shoemaker said. “She has great experience in playing and more importantly coaching the game.

“Logan has put together an incredible coaching staff that is not only as experienced in the sport as Logan is, but they are ready, and committed, to building the program even stronger than it is now. I am excited for the upcoming season.”

Manders said, “I have been in the volleyball world for 21 years. I have been involved in travel, school, beach, and adult leagues. I achieved a long-time dream by extending my volleyball career after high school by playing for Defiance College.”

Manders coached junior high and JV volleyball for Whitmer High School and has been coaching travel volleyball for two years.

She was given the opportunity to join the Stritch volleyball staff last year as the JV coach and was ecstatic.

“We had a great season and the girls really showed that they had a passion for the game,” she said. “I am looking forward to working with our student athletes to grow not only their game skills but the entire volleyball program for Cardinal Stritch.

“The transition from junior varsity to varsity coach for the Cardinals will be smooth within the athletics program as well as the players, as well as Coach Brittany who will be on the coaching staff.” Manders continued.

“I had the pleasure of coaching Brittany during her junior high and high school volleyball career. She and I share the love of the game and the passion to teach skills on,and off, the court to ensure success. We are looking forward to this season with our Lady Cardinals and are excited to get to work.”

LeGare immediately knew she wanted the position when she heard the program was adding to their coaching staff.

“When I heard, I knew I wanted the position,” she said. “As a parent of a child who just graduated from the preschool program at Stritch, I already knew I loved the school, the faculty, the students, and what Cardinal Stritch stands for, so I knew it would be a perfect fit.”

All three coaches and their players will be involved in the Cardinal Stritch Summer Volleyball Camp being held this summer for girls in grades 4 -8 from July 10-12. Register at cardinalstritch.org/summercamp23/.
