Falcons eighth at Stetson’s Babs Steffens Invitational

DeBARY, Fla. – The Bowling Green State University women’s golf team placed eighth out of 13 teams at Stetson’s Babs Steffens Invitational.

The 13-team event was held at the par-72, 6,003-yard course at the DeBary Golf and Country Club.

Florida International University won the 54-hole event while BGSU (942) finished three strokes behind host Stetson (939) for eighth place. Kayla Davis (76-77-77-230) led the Falcons at 14-under-par and finishing tied for 22nd.

MacKenzie Moore (78-75-79-232) finished at 16 over par and tied for 27th. Olivia Steen (79-78-78-235) finished tied for 36th at 19 over.

Emily Pantig-Nystrom (86-81-78-245) finished tied for 56th at 29 over and Savannah Wyrick (87-81-81-249) rounded out the BGSU lineup at 33 over and tied for 60th.

“I’m proud of the way our team fought in the third round today,” BGSU coach Erin Fahey said. “We did not get off to a great start, but they hung in there and fought hard and made some key birdies down the stretch to salvage the round.”

Finishing ahead of the Falcons were FIU (+19), Kennesaw State (+32), Cincinnati (+37), Seminole State (+46), Austin Peay (+54), Jacksonville (+63), Stetson (+75), and then Bowling Green (+78).

Rounding out the field were Embry-Riddle (Fla.) (+87), Drake (+90), South Dakota State (+96), Bellarmine (+106), and Bethune-Cookman (+181)

The Falcons return to action April 7-8 as BGSU hosts the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational at the Stone Ridge Golf Club.

“We are looking forward to ironing some things out over the next seven days in preparation for the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational, which we host,” said Fahey.

“I want to encourage our fans to come out to watch on April 7th and 8th, as we strive to defend our title. We want to see a lot of orange out there,” Fahey continued.
