EPA recognizes Biofit among nation’s leading green power users

BioFit Engineered Products, a global leader in designing and manufacturing ergonomic furnishings, recently joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Power Partnership.

BioFit currently uses nearly 562,000 kilowatt-hours of green power annually, which is enough to meet 100% of its electricity use.

AEP Energy will supply BioFit with clean energy through its Renewable Energy Plan consisting of Green-e Certified National Wind Renewable Energy Credits. The wind energy resources used are located in the U.S., and the company’s initial plan agreement runs for 36 months. AEP Energy is a competitive retail electricity supplier and subsidiary of American Electric Power.

“This is a tremendous honor, and we are proud to be recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency,” saidJim Connell, president of BioFit. “According to the EPA, we’re saving the equivalent electricity needed to power more than 50 American households yearly. We’re thrilled to further cut our carbon footprint and harvest the wind to provide 100 percent of the power needed to build our seating and other ergonomic solutions. Sustainable environmental management is the future, and green energy is a winning strategy for our environment, company, customers, and global community.”

By moving the needle in the voluntary green power market, BioFit and other Green Power Partners are helping to reduce the negative health impacts of air emissions, including those related to ozone, fine particles, acid rain and regional haze, according to a press release.

In addition to transitioning to 100% renewable energy use, BioFit also voluntarily submits the products it manufactures for sustainability testing. The company’s ergonomic seating is rated LEED compliant for use in commercial interiors, and its tables are GREENGUARD Gold certified for indoor air quality standards.

Additionally, BioFit implements a number of sustainable and environmentally friendly practices throughout its work processes and operations, including the use of non-toxic powder coating of metal components, extensive recycling and reuse initiatives, incorporation of recycled materials into new products, and offering fully assembled, “blanket-wrapped,” non-packaged product shipments to help minimize the use of cardboard and plastic.

Headquartered in Bowling Green, BioFit Engineered Products is an industry-leading manufacturer of LEED-compliant ergonomic seating, GREENGUARD Gold-certified cafeteria and mobile folding tables, book trucks, carts, and footrests for industrial, high-tech, laboratory, healthcare, education, office, and custom applications.
