TOP 100 Community Hospital

The Chartis Group for Rural Health also ranked Wood County Hospital as a Top 100 Rural and Community Hospital. This award highlights hospitals leading the way in care and using strategies and innovation to deliver higher-quality care and better outcomes within rural communities.

Women’s Choice Awards

Once again, Wood County Hospital is ranked as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Bariatric Surgery and one of America’s Best in Emergency Care, according to the Women’s Choice Award, America’s trusted referral source for the best in healthcare. Wood County Hospital is in the top four percent of nearly 5,000 U.S. hospitals reviewed.

Healthy Workplace PLATINUM Award

Wood County Hospital received the Platinum Healthy Worksite Award, the highest level of achievement for their dedication to keeping employees safe and healthy. This recognition is given to Ohio employers who commit to employee wellness through comprehensive worksite health promotion and wellness programs.

New Physicians

Doctors Shannon Sutherland, Elizabeth, Lauren Scott, Nitisha Mutgi, nurse practitioner Katherine Jender and Midwife Bonnie Fintel are now part of the Wood County Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology team. They see patients at Rivercrest OB/GYN in Perrysburg and Women’s Care of Wood County in Bowling Green, and work with Wood County Hospital obstetrician Dr. Megan Porter and Nurse Practitioner Kendra Stanton. The team delivers babies at the Family Birthing Center at Wood County Hospital.

Dr. Osama Elattar, an orthopedic surgeon fellowship trained in foot and ankle treatment and sports medicine, joined Wood County Advanced Orthopaedics. He also offers total shoulder replacement and general orthopedic care and surgery.

Drs. Dean Bernardo, Jamey Ruiz and Karl Fernandez have joined Wood County Hospital at Wood County Pulmonology in the medical office building. The group is trained in critical care and treats pulmonary hypertension, COPD, Cystic Fibrosis, asthma, sleep apnea, Pulmonary Fibrosis and many other lung diseases and illnesses. The group also works closely with Wood County Hospital’s sleep lab to offer comprehensive sleep studies and medicine.

Dr. Marcus Rushing is the new medical director at Employer Services, formally ReadyWorks, now located on the second floor of the Falcon Health Center, managed by Independence Health Employer Services. This new location not only offers easier accessibility from I-75 with convenient parking but also includes multiple services in one location, such as lab, radiology, primary care, urgent care, work-related services and injury care, pharmacy, drug and alcohol testing, rehab and chiropractic care.

Chiropractor Jacob Brandman joined the Falcon Health Primary Care Center on the second floor. He provides care for musculoskeletal/sports-related injuries, soft tissue therapies, spine and extremity adjustments, exercises and stretches to improve overall function and range of motion.

Wood County Medical Associates was excited to welcome Dr. Melissa Houser to the pediatric team. Houser is currently an employee of Nationwide Children’s Hospital and brings over 20 years of pediatric experience to the team.

New Services

The Center for Weight Loss Surgery expanded its offerings to include the non-surgical Medical Weight Loss Program. Patients work with expert staff using the latest evidence-based medicine and therapy treatment for the best results in improving the patient’s long-term health and meeting their weight loss goals – losing an average 5-10% of their body weight over six months.

Dr. Carlos Gomez successfully performed his 100th robotic knee. This new procedure allows for an even more personalized replacement with enhanced surgical accuracy, valuable insights, precision and predictability and is designed to get you on your feet faster.
