PERRYSBURG — The city has a new city seal. Perrysburg Council approved legislation for the new design at its Feb. 21 meeting.
The seal was updated three years ago when the City underwent a rebranding with a new logo, colors, and fonts. The plan was to do a gradual rollout of the rebranding with the city seal being last, but that plan was delayed due to the pandemic.
The updated seal still pays homage to the old one with its circular shape, the nautical rope, and its traditional typeset (“City of Perrysburg” and “Established 1816”), but it now boasts a distinguishable representation of Commodore Perry, a nod to the City’s history at Fort Meigs and the Battle of Lake Erie, and the importance of the City’s location on the Maumee River.
The new seal will be used for official City business and can be used on reports to council or committee, official memos, letters, certificates and proclamations.
The seal was designed by local designer, Melissa Wehrman. She has designed for institutions such as the Toledo Opera, Toledo Symphony, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, while also collaborating on original restaurant concepts and boutique hotel brands across the country. Her work has been featured in multiple books and design blogs, as well as being honored as a finalist for a James Beard Foundation Award for “Outstanding Restaurant Graphics,” the Toledo Ad Club ADDY “Best in Show” Award and 19 other Toledo ADDY Awards.
