Bobcats third at NWOAC

FREMONT — The Bowling Green swim team finished third during the Northwest Ohio Aquatic Conference meet Saturday at Hawk-Bucci Natatorium. That is the highest team finish in school history for a BG girls team.

Port Clinton won the meet with 352½ points, followed by Fremont Ross (318) and BG (250).

Oak Harbor (239) was fourth, followed by Wauseon (220), Napoleon (215), Toledo Notre Dame (203), Sandusky Perkins (184), Sylvania Southview (179), Sylvania Northview (120½) and Sandusky (38).

BG senior Maddy Desmond was the Bobcats’ only winner, taking the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.28 and Desmond was second in the 100 backstroke (1:01.85).

Two BG relay teams finished in third. The 200 medley relay (Desmond, juniors Maggie Layne, Ella Billiot, and Ela Ostrowski) finished in 1:58.89, and the 400 freestyle relay (Desmond, Layne, Ostrowski, and senior Hannah Mathey) finished in 4:08.27.

Layne was fourth in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 1:14.14, and sixth in the 200 intermediate medley (2:28.98).

The BG boys team, which was missing one swimmer, finished in ninth place.

Ross won with 422 points, followed by Oak Harbor (401), Napoleon (272), Perkins (231), Northview (214), Wauseon (200), Toledo St. John’s (165), Southview (152½), BG (92½), Port Clinton (81) and Sandusky (52).
