BGSU’s O’Hara named Forward of the Week

Bowling Green State University hockey’s Ryan O’Hara earned Forward of the Week in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s Players of the Week honors.

This is for games played Friday and Saturday.

Will Zmolek (Bemidji State) and Mattias Sholl (Bemidji State) were the Defenseman and Goaltender of the Week, respectively. Joey Larson (Northern Michigan) was selected as the Rookie of the Week.

O’Hara, a sophomore from Oakville, Ontario, Canada, led the Falcons to a series sweep with three points on the weekend, tallying a goal and two assists. On Friday, he scored a power play goal on a redirect, giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead. It was his second power play goal and fifth total goal of the year. Earlier in that game, he earned an assist on Ethan Scardina’s power play goal. The following night, he registered an assist on Austen Swankler’s game-winning goal, breaking a 2-2 tie with just 17 seconds left in regulation. The sophomore has four assists on the season, giving him nine points, which ranks second on the team.

This is O’Hara’s first conference honor of the season and second of his career. He earned CCHA Rookie of the Week on Feb. 14, 2021. He is the fourth Falcon to be earn a conference honor, joining Austen Swankler, Christian Stoever and Zack Rose.

Bowling Green goes on the road for the next series, playing two games against Ferris State. The first game begins at 7:07 p.m. on Friday, with the second game scheduled for 6:07 p.m. on Saturday.
