Veterans Day celebrations planned at Perrysburg schools

PERRYSBURG — Each of the Perrysburg schools is planning an event to recognize Veterans Day.

Hull Prairie Intermediate School will hold a Veterans Day Celebration and Recognition open to veterans or those currently serving in the armed forces on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the HPI Commons.

A school assembly and recognition event will be held Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the gym. Seating at the school assembly will be limited to students, employees and military guests.

Perrysburg High School is again hosting its annual Veterans Day Breakfast on Nov. 11 in the Perrysburg High School Commons. The breakfast will run from 7:30-8:15 a.m. Students will have the opportunity to meet service members and their guests at the end of the breakfast. Veterans who would like to attend are asked to contact Rick Rettig, military liaison and director of counseling, at [email protected] or 419-874-3181 ext. 5186 to RSVP to the event.

Perrysburg Junior High School will hold its Veterans Day assembly and reception on Nov. 10 at 1:15 p.m. in the PJHS auditorium. Students are encouraged to invite a relative, family friend and/or neighbor who is a veteran or is currently enlisted to attend. Immediately after the assembly, veterans are invited to stay and enjoy some refreshments in the media center. If a veteran plans on attending, RSVP by calling the PJHS Office at 419-874-9193 or by sending an email to [email protected].

PJHS will again be creating a slideshow to share at the assembly. To include a picture in the slide show, email Assistant Principal Chad Warnimont, at [email protected] and include the following information:

• Name of veteran or service person in the photo

• Military branch and rank

• PJHS student and/or staff connection

Frank Elementary School will host a breakfast and assembly on Nov. 11. Breakfast will be served for the veterans in the gym from 9:08-9:15. An assembly will be held from 9:15- 10 a.m.

Fort Meigs Elementary School will hold a Pep Rally/Veterans Day assembly on Nov. 10. Breakfast will be served from 8-9 a.m. with the assembly from 9:30-10:50 a.m. Breakfast will be sponsored by the Fort Meigs Boosters and kindergarten students will make the table craft for the veterans to take with them.

On Nov. 11, Toth Elementary will celebrate Veterans Day with coffee and donuts for veterans at 8:45 a.m. in the Toth lobby. At approximately 9:20 a.m., students will be called outside to gather around the flagpole for a flag-raising ceremony and a “thank you” to the honored guests.

Students will display stars to commemorate all the veterans in their life, which will be displayed on our “Honor Wall” in the Toth lobby.

On Nov. 11, all grade levels at Woodland Elementary School will be doing units of instruction about Veterans Day and making cards for veterans.
