Two Falcon golfers in top 10 at Catawba

CATAWBA ISLAND, Ohio — The Bowling Green State University women’s golf team had two top-10 finishers at the Rocket Classic Invitational on Tuesday, finishing in fifth place in the 11-team tournament. The two-day event took place at the Catawba Island Club, a par-72, 6,118-yard course.

Senior Kayla Davis led BGSU, finishing tied for No. 4 at a 10-over-par 228 (80-75-73), while sophomore MacKenzie Moore finished tied for No. 7 at a 12-over-par 230 (78-75-77).

“While we fell short of our team goal, I’m proud of the team for fighting through some windy conditions,” said BGSU coach Erin Fahey. “We saw some strides in areas that we have been working on and some things that we need to tidy up.

“Congratulations to Kayla Davis for a top five finish and to MacKenzie Moore for a top 10 finish. They continue to lead the way for the team, and have played well for us all season,” Fahey continued.

Freshman Olivia Steen placed tied for No. 28 at a 24-over-par 242 (83-78-81) and Alyson Kovach finished tied for No. 37 at a 31-over 249 (83-82-84).

Finishing the BGSU lineup was senior Savannah Wyrick who finished tied for No. 41 at a plus-33 251 (87-84-80).

Participating as an individual, senior Amanda Maletich finished No. 50 at a 39-over 257 (93-79-85).

Rutgers won the tournament, shooting 910, followed by Akron (923), Central Michigan (936), Toledo (936) and BGSU (945).

Rounding out team scores were Ohio (963), Cincinnati (963), Ball State (965), Toledo’s second team (993), Purdue Fort Wayne (994) and Cleveland State (1,005).

The Falcons conclude the fall portion of their schedule at Central Michigan’s Chippewa Invitational.

The Chippiewa Invitational is next for the Falcons on Monday-Tuesday in Birmingham, Michigan.

BGSU men sixth

MAINEVILLE, Ohio — The Bowling Green men’s golf team competed in the Xavier Invitational, posting a score of 885 and finishing tied for sixth for the field with Oakland.

The event was held at TPC River’s Bend, a rar-72, 7,180-yard course. The tournament played 27 holes on Monday and concluded on Tuesday with 27 holes.

Individually, BGSU junior Brandon Rattray led the Falcons by finishing tied for 18th at a 4-over-par 74-73-73—220.

Freshman Ethan Irvine finished tied for 22nd at a 5-over 73-71-77—221, while Tom Bell finished tied for 29th at 6-over 71-75-76—222.

BGSU sophomore Darin Hudak finished tied for 36th at a 9-over 73-78-74—225 while sophomore Connor Gdovin rounds out the BGSU lineup at 58th with a 16-over score of 72-84-76—232.

Wright State won the tournament, shooting 851, followed by Austin Peay (874), Tennessee Tech (876), Western Kentucky (877), Northern Kentucky (884), Oakland and BGSU.

Rounding out team scores were DePaul (893), Villanova (910), Xavier (911), Morehead State (916) and Austin Peay’s second team (874).

The Falcons return to action Monday-Tuesday at the Dayton Flyer Invitational in Kettering, Ohio.
