Eastwood girls soccer closes in on NBC title

PEMBERVILLE — Eastwood senior Kayden Firsdon’s first half goal stood up as the Eagles defeated Woodmore, 1-0, in a key Northern Buckeye Conference girls soccer game Thursday.

Firsdon was assisted by sophomore Sam Brooks. Eastwood sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Jensen had five saves in earning the shutout.

Eastwood, which is receiving votes in the Division III state coaches’ poll, stays unbeaten at 10-0-1 overall and 7-0 in the league while Woodmore falls to 9-2 and 5-2 with both losses coming to the Eagles.

Perrysburg 3, Bowling Green 1

In Northern Lakes League volleyball Thursday, Perrysburg defeated Bowling Green 25-14, 23-25, 25-14, 25-15 on the Bobcats’ floor.

Perrysburg improves to 12-5 overall and 8-2 in the NLL, while BG drops to 6-8 and 4-6.

For Perrysburg, senior Sara Pahl had 14 kills and junior Wrigley Takats had 13 kills and seniors Avery Adamski and Josie Hubbard had six aces apiece.

Senior Danielle Cleavenger and freshman Katie Pahl had four blocks apiece, Adamski and Katie Pahl had 19 assists each, and junior Maddie Trautman had 10 assists.

On defense for the Yellow Jackets, senior Giana Frayer had 42 assists.

For BG, Madison Cowan had 10 kills and 12 digs, Talia Twigg had six kills, one solo block, one block assist and one dig, Macyn Dean-Scheele had five kills and three digs, and Francesca Meek had 23 digs and two assists.

Rossford 3, Woodmore 2

ELMORE — Rossford took the first two sets, and then held on to defeat Woodmore in Northern Buckeye Conference volleyball Thursday, 25-21, 27-25, 19-25, 29-25, 16-14.

For Rossford, Olivia Rust had 20 kills and Sophia Shinaver had 31 assists.

The Bulldogs improve to 7-7 overall and 6-4 in the league, while Woodmore falls to 8-9 and 2-8.

Otsego 3, Fostoria 0

TONTOGANY — Otsego swept visiting Fostoria, 25-10, 25-20, 25-9, in Northern Buckeye Conference volleyball Thursday.

Otsego improves to 9-6 overall and 8-2 in the conference, while Fostoria drops to 1-17 and 0-10.

Elmwood 3, Genoa 0

BLOOMDALE — Elmwood defeated Genoa, 25-14, 25-15, 25-12, in Northern Buckeye Conference volleyball Thursday to improve to 8-9 overall and 4-6 in the league.

Genoa falls to 2-12 and 2-8.

Marten qualifies for districts

TOLEDO — At Heather Downs Country Club Thursday, Eastwood senior Trent Marten shot 40-40—80 in the Division II sectional tournament to qualify as an individual to the district tournament.

As a team, Eastwood shot 356 to finish sixth behind Ottawa Hills (330), Genoa (331), Bryan (338), Swanton (347) and Archbold (347).

The rest of the teams included Wauseon (358), Toledo Central Catholic (366), Lake (372), Otsego (375), Oak Harbor (387), Rossford (432), Evergreen (440) and Delta (446).

Other golfers for Eastwood were senior Tristan Schuerman (41-42—83), freshman Daryn Hoy (48-45—93), senior Ethan Rapp (54-46—100) and sophomore Parker Bengry (51-49—100).

Lake golfers were senior Chase Osborne (41-40—81), junior Ryan Wagner (46-43—89), senior Myles Lowe (48-45—93), sophomore Will Perry (57-52—109) and senior Brandon Phillips (63-58—121).

Otsego golfers were senior Chaz Timko (43-46—89), sophomore Wesley Kellermeier (45-49—94), senior Carson Hollar (47-49—96), junior Trey Studer (47-49—96) and senior Jack Vollmar (49-49—98).

Rossford golfers were senior Garette Murphree (43-50—93), senior Derek Vorst (54-49—103), sophomore Keegan Johnson (59-58—117), senior Ian Clark (59-60—119) and junior Christian Peyton (63-65—128).
