Bowling Green State University men’s soccer standout Alberto Anaya has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week.

Anaya, a sophomore, earns the honor for the first time this season and the second time in his BGSU career. In addition to the MAC accolade, Anaya earned honorable mention on the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week on Tuesday.

Anaya, a native of Queretaro, Mexico (ITESM Leon), had one of the top performances by a Falcon in recent memory on Friday night with two goals and three assists in a 6-0 win over Oakland.

Anaya scored the first two goals of the contest, just 2:23 apart, and he had assists on each of BGSU’s three second-half goals.

Anaya’s total of seven points was the highest by a Falcon in over eight years (since September of 2014), and he became the first Falcon with three assists in a match in nearly nine years (since November of 2013).

Anaya fell just one assist short of tying the school single-game record.

Additionally, Anaya had the first two-goal game of his career and the first by a Falcon since 2018. He has scored the game-winning goal in each of BGSU’s last two matches.

Anaya leads the Falcons in goals (three), assists (three) and points (nine) this season, and now has 23 points in 27 career matches.
