BG community band lets kids get in touch with music

The Bowling Green Area Community Band and the BiG Band are presenting a "Spooktacular" Family
Concert Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Bowling Green Schools’ Performing Arts Center.
Designed especially for  the young and the young at heart audience members, children are encouraged to
attend in "non-scary" costumes.
Among the activities planned for the younger guests, the concert will have a "pre-show" 
instrument petting zoo starting at 3:30 p.m, Costumed members of the community band will provide a
hands-on exploration of various band instruments for the children.
Opening the concert will be a new arrangement of patriotic music, "An American Anthem,"which
will include The Star Spangled Banner.  Featured soloists on the piece will be Cindy Brechmacher, Sara
Bushong, Gary Keller, Jim George and John Kloor.
The BiG Band, the jazz ensemble led by William Lake, will perform  "Old Devil Moon" and
"Abracadabra." BiG Band soloists are Rachel Richards, John Kloor, Ardy Gonyer, Fleming Fallon
and Ryan Holley.
The rest of the concert will be devoted to the "Spooktacular" theme, as the BGACB performs
music from the Harry Potter films, themes from  "Phantom of the Opera," "The Monster
Under the Bed" and "The March of the Trolls."
At the conclusion of the concert, children will be invited on stage for a march of the costumes, with
ample time for families to get photographs and videos of their children.
The concert is presented free of charge to the community; donations are welcome and will be accepted.
The Community Band is directed by Thomas R. Headley, retired director of bands for Bowling Green City
Schools.
