Search area expands for missing Ohio K-9 unit dog

WILMINGTON, Ohio (AP) — Police and volunteers are expanding the search area for a K-9 unit dog that ran
away last week in southwest Ohio.

Scores of volunteers looked in a Greene County wildlife area over the weekend. Volunteers from the Greene
County Sheriff’s office horse unit helped in the Spring Valley area that includes woods, a lake and
marshes. There had been reported sightings of the 2-year-old male Belgian Malinois (MAL’-uh-nwah) more
than 10 miles from his Wilmington home.

The dog named Karson got loose Dec. 23 from an animal care center where his police handler left him while
going to an out-of-state wedding.

News media outlets report a $2,000 reward is being offered in the search.

Karson is the Wilmington police’s only K-9 unit dog. He joined the department a year ago.
