AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Officials say a suspect is in custody after a person was shot at a college in
Georgia.
Richmond County sheriff’s officials say in a news release that one person was shot at Paine College in
Augusta. The shooting Monday prompted a lockdown at Paine and several nearby campuses, including Georgia
Regents University.
Georgia Regents University says on its Facebook page that a suspect is in custody and that the lockdown
has been lifted for its campuses.
Paine Spokeswoman Tonya Williams says the lockdown is still in place at that school. Paine is a private
school with just more than 800 students about 140 miles east of Atlanta.
The condition of the person shot at Paine was not immediately clear. The shooting came a day after
another on Paine’s campus, though it was not known if the two were related.
