Earlier this month, Dayspring Assembly of God’s Junior Bible Quiz team finished seventh in the United
States final.
Team Christos Anthropos, consisting of Johanna Slembarski, Shani Estep and Luke Kobylski, competed at the
National JBQ Festival, a two-day event held in Concord, North Carolina. The championship event featured
80 teams from across the country, each who had earned their way to the national finals..
Their team compiled a 16-8 record overall in its 24 matches and participated in the top 10 division
earning seventh on the final day of the competition.
Christos Anthropos was the only team in the competition who had three quizzers average 50 or more points.
Their averages were Johanna, 69.8; Shani, 53.5; and Luke, 50.0, Luke finished with the third most
quiz-outs in the top division as well. Quiz-outs are earned individually by a quizzer answering six of
the 20 questions per round. Once they answer six, they earn an additional 10 points for their team.
The event featured competitors in the 2nd through 6th grades.
All three team members are in the sixth grade and each attends Bowling Green Christian Academy. The same
team finished 16th in last year’s national festival.
This was the third time in the last five years for Dayspring to send a team to the JBQ nationals.
