BGSU golfers finish fifthNASHPORT, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men’s golf team was
fifth in the Mid-American Conference tournament with a 1,220 total. It was BG’s best finish since 1995.BG’s
scorers were: Ryan Triller, 299, tied for ninth; Charlie Olson, 306, tied for 22nd, Chris Melvin, 311, 27th;
Joe Cooper, 313, 28th; and Wes Gates, 314, tied for 29th.Gates earned second-team All-MAC honors.Kent State
won the nine-team event with a 1,168 total.Falcons softball loses twiceDEKALB, Ill. – The Bowling Green
State University softball team lost twice over the weekend at Northern Illinois.The Falcons are 26-22 and
finished 9-13 in the Mid-American Conference to earn the No. 7 seed for the MAC tournament.On Sunday, NIU
posted a 5-4 win. Paige Berger hit a triple and a home run for the Falcons had two RBI. BG’s Erika Stratton
also had two hits.On Saturday, BG had only two singles in a 3-0 loss.BG opens MAC tournament play Wednesday
against Ohio at 1:30 p.m. The double-elimination tournament is being played in Akron’s Firestone Stadium.BG
baseball splitsBowling Green State University’s baseball team posted a 10-8 win over Miami Sunday to improve
to 16-24 overall and 10-11 in the Mid-American Conference.Logan Walker was 3-for-4 with a triple and three
RBI for the Falcons and Patrick Lancaster was 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBI.On Saturday, Miami posted
a 9-1 win. Lancaster singled twice for BG, and T.J.Losby hit a home run.With six MAC games remaining, BG is
tied for the sixth spot for the MAC tournament.BGSU track team competesTOLEDO – The Bowling Green State
University track and field team sent a limited squad to the Toledo Invitational.BG’s 1,600 relay team of
Taylor Rambo, Felicia Jefferson, Brittany Sinclair and Allison Weimer won in 3:44.58. That mark is 10
seconds faster than the Falcons have run this year and is less than one second from the BGSU record. It also
vaults the Falcons into the third-best time in the Mid-American Conference this year.The MAC championships
start Thursday in Akron.BGSU’s Carrillo to swim in world championshipsBowling Green State University’s
Daniela Carrillo has qualified for this summer’s world swimming championships.Carrillo, a native of
Hermosillo, Mexico, has been named to the Mexican National Team roster after a stellar performance at her
country’s national championships.The world championships are Barcelona, Spain from July 19-Aug. 4.Carrillo
won the 100 breast stroke at the Mexican national championships in 1:10.97. She was the only woman in her
event to meet the FINA B world championship qualifying standard.Carrillo, a freshman in 2012-13, was named
to the All-Mid-American Conference second-team. She became the first Falcon swimmer to advance to the NCAA
Championships since 1996.She recorded a pair of second-place finishes, in the 100- and 200 breaststroke, at
the MAC championships, with school-record times in both events.Owens golf winsPERRYSBURG – The Owens
Community College golf team won the Owens Invitational at Belmont Country Club Sunday. Owens won all six
Ohio Community College Athletic Conference tournaments this spring.Walter Dorosh shot a 73 to pace the
Express, who finished with a 310.Owens had four golfers earn first-team All-OCCAC honors – Brandon Hoelzer,
Darren Gessner, Blaze Hogan and Luke Berger.Owens’ Josh Williams was named the conference coach of the
year.Owens baseball advancesVINCENNES, Ind. – The Owens Community College baseball team has advanced to the
Region XII tournament Wednesday against Jackson CC in Battle Creek, Mich.Owens posted two wins on Friday in
a sub-regional and after rain made it impossible to play Saturday and Sunday, the sub-regional became single
elimination and Owens advanced with its two wins.BGCC to hold clinicsThe Bowling Green Country Club will
hold three clinics at Dixie Driving Range.A ladies clinic will be held May 18 and 25, and June 1 and 8 from
9-11 a.m. The cost is $70.Two adult clinics will be held, one on May 21 and 28, and June 4, and the other on
June 3, 10 and 17. The clinics will go form 6-8 p.m. The cost is $65.A clinic for girls age 8-14 will be
held June 4, 6, 11 and 13 from 10 a.m.-noon. The clinic is sponsored by the Golferettes and is free to girls
in BG. The clinic is limited to 16 girls.A ball-fitting demo day with Bridgestone Golf will be held June 4
