BGSU baseball completes sweep of Akron
AKRON – The Bowling Green State University baseball team completed a weekend sweep of Akron with an 8-1
win on Sunday.
The Falcons are 16-19 overall and 8-7 in the Mid-American Conference having won four straight games and
10 of their last 13 games.
BG’s top hitters Sunday were: Patrick Lancaster, 3-for-4; Brian Bien, 2-for-5; Jake Thomas, 2-fof-5; T.
J. Losby, 2-for-3, double, RBI; and Brandon Howard, 2-for-4, RBI.
Andrew Lacinak pitched seven innings, allowing six hits and one earned run with a walk and a strikeout,
to get the win.
On Saturday, BG had a 14-hit attack to beat Akron, 11-5.
BG’s top hitters were: Bien, 4-for-6, two RBI; Lancaster, 2-for-5, triple RBI; Jesse Rait, 2-for-4;
Howard, 2-for-5, two RBI; and Trey Keegan, 1-for-3, three RBI.
Falcon softball loses to Kent
KENT – Kent State beat the Bowling Green State University softball team, 10-4 Sunday. BG had six errors
in the game.
The Falcons are 20-23-1 overall and 6-8 in the Mid-American Conference.
Katie Yoho hit a three-run home run for the Falcons and Chloe Giordano hit a solo home run.
On Saturday, Kent State blanked the Falcons, 8-0. BG had only two hits in the five-inning game.
In four weekend games, Yoho was 6-of-15 with a double, three home runs and 12 RBI.
BG’s Pleger wins hammer throw
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Bowling Green State University’s Brooke Pleger won the hammer throw at the Kentucky
Relays, throwing 211-5.
BG’s Brittany Sinclair met the Mid-American Conference automatic qualifying mark in the 400, finishing in
55.92. Teammate Alicia Arnold ran a 12.14 in the 100, the seventh-fastest time in school.
BG’s Kori Reiser, from Elmwood High School, was fourth in the hammer throw with a 184-10 effort. Reiser
was also 10th in the discus at 147-8.
At the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut Calif., BG’s Jasmine Redman finished in 17:01.85 to surpass the MAC
qualifying mark in the 5,000.
Miami tops BGSU tennis
OXFORD – Miami defeated the Bowling Green State University tennis team, 5-2 Saturday.
The Falcons finished sixth in the Mid-American Conference at 4-4 and are 10-8 overall.
The MAC tournament is this weekend at Miami.
Falcon men golfers seventh
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Bowling Green State University men’s golf team finished seventh with a 54-hole
total of 884 in the The Rutherford Intercollegiate.
Minnesota won the 14-team event with an 860.
BG’s scorers were Brett Rinker, tied for ninth, 217; Jose Narro and Joe Cooper, tied for 24th, 221 each;
Chris Melvin, tied for 57th, 229; and Holden Pahr, tied for 65th, 231
Mud Hens sweep doubleheader
COLUMBUS – Toledo’s J.D. Martinez hit four home runs to help the Mud Hens sweep a doubleheader from
Columbus, 8-1 and 7-6 on Saturday. Toledo is 7-10 in the International League West.
Martinez finished 4-for-7 with seven RBI in the two games. Also for Toledo, Ezequiel Carerra was 5-of-8
with three RBI and Hernan Perez was 5-for-7 with an RBI.
